2007 ODONA CONVENTION:
This year's ODONA convention was one of the best. There were so many attendees we had to order extra bags, books, etc. EXCELLENT! Thank You!! And from the comments on evaluations you really enjoyed the speakers, topics, and networking. It was a busy time - it seems like every second, from morning to night, is filled with something to do.
The vendor hall was representative of all kind of products and services, and ODONA sincerely thanks all the vendors who register and support DON's in long-term care. A special THANK YOU goes out to all the sponsors. It would be impossible to put on a convention without your support.
This year ODONA gave out $2500 dollars in scholarships to aid individuals interested in long-term care reach their goals. All recipients were very deserving. Nurses and STNA's who works in a facility where the DON is a member of ODONA can apply for a scholarship. Forms are available on the web site or from the ODONA office.
A special award was given to the founder of ODONA at this year's convention. A first ever Woman of the Year Award, was presented to Judy Camp by the board. We really appreciate all Judy does to help and after all, we wouldn't be here without her. Thanks Judy.
This was also a year when new board members assumed a lot of the responsibility for planning and carrying out convention tasks and troubleshooting problems, and they all did an excellent job. There is a lot of work that goes into planning a convention and then seeing that all goes smoothly. Lots of last minute things come up, especially when attendance is more than expected. The hotel staff did a great job of meeting our needs and the board did a great job of handling last minute changes. It's that old cliché "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

ODONA SCHOLARSHIPS
There were three scholarships awarded at the Awards Dinner during this year's ODONA Convention. The scholarships and recipients are as follows:
The ODONA LTC Scholarship is awarded to current ODONA members who have been working in Long Term Care for a minimum of one year. The scholarship is intended to support the mission of ODONA in assisting members in continuing formal education related to the role of the Director of Nursing. It is the goal of ODONA to award one scholarship in each of the state's five regions annually.
SHERRI SHIVELY was this year's recipient. Sherri is an RN at The St. Francis Home in Tiffin and is working toward her BSN.
The ODONA LPN to RN Transition Scholarship is available to LPN's in homes where the DON is an ODONA member. This was established with the goal of creating a larger pool for future DON's and recognizing the shortage of DON's in the industry.
DAWN JONES was this year's recipient. Dawn is an LPN at The Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina and is working toward her RN.
The ODONA Nursing Assistant Scholarship is available to STNA's in homes where the DON is an ODONA member. This was established to acknowledge the many individuals wishing to become Long Term Care nurses and recognizing the shortage of nurses in the industry.
ANNIE JOHNSON was this year's recipient. Annie is an STNA at St. Luke's Lutheran Care Center in North Canton working toward becoming an LPN.
Scholarship applications may be submitted at any time and are reviewed on February 1st each year, and presented at the Annual ODONA Convention. Applications may be obtained by calling the ODONA office or downloaded from the ODONA website.

ODONA AT THE OHCA CONVENTION
Once again ODONA had a booth at the OHCA Convention held during the first week of May. Our booth location was wonderful and gave us the
opportunity to meet and speak with hundreds of current and potential ODONA members, explaining our mission and the importance of supporting
each other. We felt it was the best OHCA convention ever with a new layout in the vendor hall making it very easy for attendees to move around.
At our booth we distributed reminder fliers for our 2008 ODONA Convention, February 24th, 25th, & 26th and did hourly drawings for the many
gift certificates we gave away. The following were the lucky winners!
