ODONA Regional News
![]() REGION 1: (Central Ohio)Directors, Lisa Maleszewski, RN, and Rose Marie' Smith, RNGreetings, Everyone. Our local group, CODONA, continues to flourish, with monthly meetings at Bravo's restaurant at the Crosswoods Center at 270 and St Rt 23, in central Columbus. Meetings are usually scheduled on the third or fourth Friday of the month, from 11am-1pm. We continue to strive for interesting and relevant speakers, to present on topics that reflect Central Ohio's ever-changing best practices. Recent topics and speakers have included Dr. David Brown, an urologist speaking on advances in geriatric incontinence treatment, Dr. Ken Writesel, speaking on innovations in the identification/treatment of geriatric depression, and Dr. Bill Wulf, Medical Director at The Lab Company. Dr. Wulf gave a fabulous presentation on an analysis of abnormal labs, with a focus on teaching our direct-care nurses to think critically and put the results on context prior to calling the physician. We are very excited in the planning of our upcoming meeting-we hope to secure Jim Collins of Provider Services, to give a motivational presentation at the newly renovated Columbus Colony Elder Care facility! A big THANK YOU to our recent sponsors: Eli Lilly, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, The Lab Company, Provider Services, and The Columbus Colony Elder Care facility! In the coming months, we have even more exciting speakers and topics in the works! We are always interested in what topics our members want, and tailor our meetings to suit the needs of the group dynamic. Our meeting structure continues to be informal-an interesting presentation, a delicious free lunch at a great restaurant, and time to relax, unwind, and network with your fellow nurse managers who really understand the crazy role that we all fill. We are proud to continue on this mission without the need to charge dues, and CODONA is truly a warm, supportive group, where everyone has a voice! ODONA membership is not compulsory to join our CODONA group, but we highly recommend it, to take advantage of all of the member benefits to ODONA! We always have information regarding ODONA membership, as well as a discussion regarding current events with ODONA at the local chapter meetings! We are also available to assist anyone else in the ODONA community start a local DON group in his or her area. If you are interested in attending a CODONA meeting and would like to be added to our mailing list, or if you want some help to organize a local group of your own, we'd be very happy to help! It's nice to bask in the sunshine today! June 10, 2010 was our first ODONA meeting for the Cuyahoga County chapter. Thank you very much Veronica and Issac for your hospitality. Six nurses attend our first meeting. We had a wonderful interactive exchange and I believe this is the beginning of great things. Goal/Focus of the group is going to be sharing of information and education. As the group evolves we will determine any future goals for the meeting. At this meeting, infection control updates/training, QIS surveys and 5 Star Ratings were discussed as possible future topics. A Certified Infection Control Nurse who is a member of APIC has been asked if she can attend the August meeting, where we can present questions regarding infection control.
