ODONA Regional News

REGION 1:

CODONA continues to have our monthly meetings at "Bravo" at the Crosswoods Center in Columbus. Our May meeting was sponsored by the Wound Center at MedCentral Health System and Smith and Nephew. The June meeting will be held on June 22, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at "Bravo" and will be sponsored by Mobile Medical.

For our July meeting we are going to shake things up a bit and have a "happy hour" at "Bar Louie" in the Easton Town Center on July 27, 2007 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The sponsor for our July meeting will be Critical Life EMS. REGION 2:

Area Coordinator - Lisa Ochier RN, ODONA Vice President

We started our first regional Northwest Ohio, NWODONA, meeting in January this year and we continue to have monthly meetings on topics of interest to the group. The purpose of these meetings is to gather local DON's for support and networking in a casual atmosphere to help ease the stress and isolation we sometimes feel. We welcome any participation with helping to facilitate the meetings and/or any suggestions of topic ideas. The date, time, and location vary from month to month, but usually the meetings are held on the 2nd or 3rd Friday of the month around 9:00AM. REGION 3:

Director - Larraine Leyda RN;

The Four County DON Association (Stark, Summit, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties) met on May 17, 2007 and the reviewed 27 scholarship applications. There were six $500.00 scholarships awarded. On June 21, 2007 the six recipients will be invited to a luncheon and presented with their scholarship awards. The scholarship recipients are:

Medina Area: These area meetings are now being organized by Cathy Parker, RN will continue to be held at The Western Reserve Masonic Community, 4931 Nettleton Rd. in Medina. We offer survey updates, free CEU's, brainstorming and networking. The meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month, with the next one scheduled for June 28th. Northeast Ohio Area
On Thursday, July 12, 2007, from 11:30am until 2pm, Region 3 will host another monthly educational meeting and luncheon and we welcome all DON's, ADON's, and other interested LTC nurses! The meeting will be held at The Gardens of McGregor and Amasa Stone, 14900 Private Drive, East Cleveland, Ohio, 44112. The presenter is Christine Nelson, RN, MSN and she will be addressing "Care and Treatment During All Stages of Alzheimer's Disease." Fliers will be mailed to the Directors of Nursing in Region 3 in June. Lunch will be provided by Aziz, the makers of Aricept.
The focus of these meetings is to educate, update, and network with other LTC nurses, many of whom are familiar with the latest regulatory requirements as well as identify practical ways to address these issues.
